Atelier de Création Graphique 

Atelier de Création Graphique was founded in 1989 by Peter Bernard as a continuation of the famous French group, Grapus. From day one, they have been true masters of their craft. They continue to carry their strong graphic voice of dissent and rebelious innovation in their current work. They boast an envious rosters of clients that include the Louvre and the Centre Pompidou, but they do no rest on their laurels and always trying new things; even if they fail.

ArtWorkLove 

Those three things are the focus of this London-based studio. ArtWorkLove is comprised of Ben Reece, Marion Laurens, and Caroline de Vries. This French and English team craft some truly well done work that nicely straddles the line between form and meaning. Their portfolio is a very impressive collection of work indeed.

Now, the site does not do justice to the immaculate craft of these typefaces. This new digital foundry has a small, but solid stable of typefaces that have clearly been lovingly created. They have a freakin’ coptic typeface for christ sake! These have GOT to be made by true type lovers. Skip the site and check out their specimen sheets!

Our french readers are probably familiar with the work of Catherine Zask. Her careful and obsessive study of typographic form is truly motivational. I find new meaning to typography as structures.

Collection Design & Designer 071: Post Typography

I’ve been a distant, and admittedly jealous, admirer of Post Typography for a few years now. Nolan Starls and Bruce Willen are a power duo from Baltimore composed of pure nuclear, ingenious creative energy. The cheeky, intelligent, and self-aware duo have crafted beautiful works of print, typography, and even music, (they both perform in Double Dagger with friend Denny Bowen.) The fruits of their hard labor have been compactly collected in a small monograph published by french publisher Pyramyd.

The monograph itself is #071 in Pyramyd’s Design & Designer Collection; an accessible series combining interesting designers from all walks. Physically the book is underwhelming, but the pocket size scale lends itself to being both a pleasurable resource you can pull out anywhere conveniently. Pyramyd and Post Typography have surely worked hard to compile a very complete overview of all their graphic activities.
