I know very little about this man, but his work is quite influential. Can you see the impact of his work on flamboyant photographers like David Lachapelle? I think yes. Fascinating.

The venerable DP introduced me to Issuu a while ago. I have recently been prowling the vast shelves of this growing platform. The experience is not 100%, but I dare say that it’s a nice way to peruse all the fashion magazines of the world! Here are some of my favorite recent finds.

Nigel Tomm’s Famous Photographers. An interesting take on a photo book.

11 horses is a compilation of Prezenn Storm’s photographic work in magazine form.

Kingdom Magazine is put out by Daniel Vázquez.

I Love Fake Magazine featured our favorite nude troublemakers, Hasisi Park!

Soko Zine is an Argentinian effort by We Make Pogo.

POSI+TIVE MAGAZINE is a collection of things which happens in the world that we want to show with different points of view, through stories, photos, draws and other kinds of visual art.

Rocket Magazine is a fine Spanish publication.

A young and ambitious SVA grad, Panayiotis Terzis weaves psychadelic journeys into nether worlds only he knows. Having lived in Providence for four years in the aftermath of Fort Thunder, I am instinctually suspicious of work like Terzais’. Yet, there is an added polish and possible drawing from deeper narratives that compels me. I am interested to see what else comes from the young artist.

I just saw this interesting article about how David Hockney has taken to a new medium, his iPhone. Over the last six months he’s been producing multiple drawings a day using the Brushes app (and only his thumb!). He then distributes them to about a dozen friends and doesn’t care what happens to them after that. Hockney assumes his works somehow make it out to the world, even if he doesn’t specifically release it. I hope so, cause I’m always up for some spontaneous thumb paintings from a master.

Percy Cannon is a painter currently working towards his MFA at the famed San Francisco Art Institute. I graduated with Percy in ‘06 from RISD, so I can personally say that his work has bravely exploded. To describe his new works as “groovy,” “trippy,” or “psychadelic” is to serve them obvious injustice. Look out for more inspiring, tactile painted works from this young fellow.
