Fire!

A friend of mine sent me a link to this feature from the Fabrik Project earlier today. It features unique range of fire extinguishers designed by the french company Fire Design. According to the article – ìThis design product should be an original and colourful way to be safe with style!î

Looking inward, as a designer – I’d have to admit I love the crazy graphics. But just as a secondary observation and bearing in mind the context of the product, am I the only one to conclude this might only reaffirm the ongoing, underlying notion (of which I keep hearing more and more) that designers are indeed ëwankersí?

Wankers? Probably. People who come in and make things pretty at the end of a project? Definitely. I think we should change that.

Katherine – I agree we should change, considering the current economic climate (yawn). I just feel that the Coke can reinvention campaign, and dare I mention ‘sketchels’ were one thing – but this is taking it to the next level. Graphic design is essentially a service industry after all.
