Daniel Gil

Mr. Pocull was showing me today this book of Spanish design from 1939 to 1975 and it truly is a nice collection of some beautiful work. I made my way through and was struck by some book covers in there designed by a Daniel Gil. I am having trouble finding much information on him but stumbled upon this blog post which lead me to this flickr site which basically documents over 900 of his covers. This is a ridiculous set of work. Do browse as I am telling you, almost every cover is worth it. Amazing amount and collection of work. Check it when you have the chance.

I am particularly fascinated by these hand made covers. Just a touch of something poking out, extruding, or playing with paper. Awesome execution of restraint and beauty.

Look at this one! Amazing:

I spot some Lucio Fontana! Homage or fromage? HOMAGE! Excellent.
I love the Wittgenstein’s one in terms of the content and cover art.
